I will say this about the New York Mets. They are the hottest team in baseball right now and are now closing in on the Wild Card. They have been really impressive. Since losing 3 of 4 to the Giants they have gone on a hot streak. Taking 2 of 3 from the Padres, sweeping both the Pirates and White Sox. Then going on the road and winning a series in Pittsburgh against those same Pirates and now are one win away from sweeping the lowly Marlins. Have they had a tough schedule the last couple of weeks? No. BUT The Mets were at the breaking point a couple months ago. Their bullpen couldn’t stop a team from scoring runs, and the clubhouse and front office seemed to be in disarray.

Brodie Van Wagenen pulled off a great trade at the deadline, nabbing up Marcus Stroman right from under the nose of every other interested suitor for practically next to nothing. Van Wagenen didn’t just pull off a trade though. By not trading Wheeler and Syndergaard BVW did what a lot of teams couldn’t do. He decided whether the Mets were going to make a run for the playoffs or sell and wait till next year. He instilled confidence in his team that they would turn it around and play the way they should with the talent on their roster. The Mets have not disappointed, even if they don’t end up making the playoffs it’s a great start to seeing what potential this team has for next year.

If they do manage to get in however there is are some issues. Like with the 2015 Mets that went to the World Series under Terry Collins. The manager Mickey Callaway. Whether or not his team is playing well at the moment Callaway can be the end all be all in a playoff game, and with the way he had trouble handling things in the earlier part of the year I have got little faith in the way Callaway operates. It would not surprise me playoffs or not to see BVW make a change next year that will compliment the team he has put together. Cough cough Joe Girardi. Also when it comes to hitting they have 2 guys hitting over .300, homeruns will win you some games but as we saw from the Red Sox last year, its timely and consistent hitting that will bring you through the playoffs. The bullpen will also be an issue that needs some figuring out. But for right now the Mets will have to do with what they got. So for now Lets Fucking Go Mets. I’m in on the Metropolitans. Lets see them go for it.
